How that figure is reached
Each slice of your salary is taxed at its own rate — not all of it at the highest one. This is where every rupee of your tax comes from.

Above PKR 7,000,000
PKR 1,424,000 + 35% of the amount over PKR 7,000,000
Worked example: on a salary of PKR 2,400,000 a year — PKR 200,000 a month — the tax is PKR 156,000 for the year, which is 6.50% of the salary even though the top slab reached is 20%. That gap is the point of a slab system, and it is why your top rate is not what you actually pay.
Questions about salary tax

- How is income tax on salary calculated in Pakistan?
- Salary is taxed in slabs, not at one flat rate. Each slice of your yearly salary is taxed at the rate for that slice — so the first PKR 600,000 is exempt for everyone, and only the part above a threshold is taxed at that threshold's rate. Someone earning PKR 2,500,000 does not pay 20% on all of it; they pay nothing on the first 600,000, 1% on the next 600,000, 11% on the next 1,000,000, and 20% only on the remaining 300,000.
- What is the tax-free salary limit for 2026–27?
- PKR 600,000 a year — that is PKR 50,000 a month. Below that there is no income tax on salary at all. You should still file a return, because filing is what puts you on the Active Taxpayer List, and that is a separate thing from owing tax.
- Is this calculator based on the current FBR slabs?
- Yes — the salary slabs for tax year 2026–27. The calculator shows the full working, slab by slab, so you can check the figure against the FBR notification rather than taking ours on trust.
- Does this cover anything other than salary?
- No. It works out tax on salary income under the salaried slabs. Rental income, business income, capital gains, a second source of income, and reliefs or credits you may be entitled to are all handled differently, and a return that includes any of them needs a person to look at it. Talk to us and we will tell you where you stand.
- Is my salary sent anywhere?
- No. The calculation happens in your browser as you type. Nothing is submitted, nothing is stored, and nothing is logged.
